Background

We are folks with decades of experience in creating intellectual property behind some of the top software companies. We brought in new paradigms and techniques in sofware engineering that totally altered the delivery time and cost of producing software.

We are innovators and ideators. We constantly think how sofware can radically impact your business for you to have an edge. Not only can we deliver fast and significantly with less cost but we can help with ideas that will have far-reaching impact in the way you do business.

Our experience ranges from building highly scalable cloud and enterprise solutions to programming language tooling to artificial intelligence. We also have built innovative business products with large impact on the bottomline of companies.

We are not fad peddlers and do not try to impress our customers with flavour of season marketing. However, we have developed cutting edge product using artificial intellgence that had profound effect in the problem domain.

Ethos

We don't like waste (in terms of time and effort). Software industry is structured largely on billing resources. Engineering innovation and IP is not the norm for consulting companies. However, there is a better way to deliver. Instead of trying to bill as many software developers as possible our approach is to use as little as possible ! This can be achieved only through innovation and our founders have a track record of achieving it.

We are an engineering first organization and continuous learning is not just a "Training initiative" or "HR initiative". It is a way of life. You don't make a cut in our company if you are not that way. Anyone who is pushed to learn and doesn't do that as way of life is not part of us, period!

Our environment breathes this culture of love of technology starting with the CEO down to the last engineer. We love role models from other industry like Henry Ford, Konosuke Matsushita, Soichiro Honda and many others.

Management philosophy

Some of our founders have parents from military background. Having seen the institution of military from a very close angle, we are inspired by it and believe a successful organization can model itself on how defence services are structured and operate.

In the military, everybody from top to bottom is a warrior (aka a hands on person). A small group goes up to be leader of men by virtue of their excellent professional skills but also being excellent man manager and administrator. None of them rise to so called "level of incompetence". They keep adding dimensions not losing it.

A smaller group reaches further up. They are still hands-on guys (look at Air Marshall of any country - they fly the latest fighter aircraft. They don't just cut ribbons). And yes they are very wise and strategic. Doesn't it surprise us that military does not hire MBAs from reputed colleges for the position of Colonels, Brigadiers or Generals?

We believe, just like in military, highly profesionally skilled and role models leaders are imperative for success.

We identify from our dev manager cadre (who are 100% hand-on) those who could also be leader of men as well as great customer relationship manager. And the progression from Director engineering to VP engineerng to CTO to CEO happens based on additional dimensions. Everyone upto the position of CEO is hands-on forever! (just like defence chief is).

Many will not be part of writing project code but they must know and practise all the latest technology and can understand everything that lead and architect talk about.

Yes business development or sales guy are different breed and we recognize them and consider that as an orthogonal pillar to business success.

How we are structured

There are 2 divisions in the company:

  1. App team (like the regular Army).
  2. "Below the line team" (like the para commandos or elite forces plus R&D combined).

The most crucial thing as far as the starting leadership position goes is that:
Architect + Project Manager = Dev Manager!

The role of Architect and PM are fused into one position! That way everyone is engaged in productive activities - 24x7x365. There is no slack. The Dev manager is the project manager. Also as an architect you are not just engaged in the beginning of the project. You are guiding the leads, solving problems, gauging risk, managing your team. You are the playing captain.

Goes without saying, in our company the Dev manager is better than the lead and is an architect and also manages the project.
